Marioff Obtains Extended FM Approvals for Safeguarding Combustion Turbines and Machinery in Enclosures

HELSINKI, Finland, June 25, 2013  — Marioff has received an extended FM Approval for its gas-driven pump unit (GPU) and a new FM Approval for its modular sprinkler pump unit (MSPU) for protecting combustion turbines and machinery in enclosures with its HI-FOG® water mist fire protection system. (NYSE: UTX).
The new and existing system approvals enable Marioff to provide water mist fire protection for a wider range of combustion turbine and machinery configurations in enclosures, while also providing more flexible system installation criteria. The maximum ceiling height was extended up to 11 meters, whereas the maximum protected volume is 1375m3. The nozzle installation criteria have been simplified because the new approvals eliminate the need for door nozzles in all cases and allow for the installation of nozzles at different heights around the turbine, as specified in the installation guidelines.

In addition to the extended GPU FM Approval, Marioff has received a new FM Approval for its MSPU systems. The same design and installation criteria apply to both pump systems so they can be used as backup, if redundancy is required. The new approval enables Marioff to provide customers with more complete fire protection solutions for various commercial buildings, including data centers, hospitals, hotels and heritage sites. Spaces housing machinery in these buildings can now also be protected with the same pump unit.
